I 410 Over Leon Creek Bridge Widening
San Antonio, Texas
DECON’s services on this Leon Creek bridge added capacity and provided entrance and exit ramps to new structures constructed as part of a large highway interchange improvement program in San Antonio. DECON provided structural design and served as Engineer of Record for widening 550 FT of the northbound and southbound lanes of the bridge. Each unit had three continuous spans of superstructure made of rolled steel beams supported on pile bents supported by concrete-filled drilled shafts.
DECON performed structural analysis and design and produced construction documents for this project, which added capacity and provided entrance and exit ramps to new structures within the interchange.
The geometry of the alignment at this location resulted in a complex superstructure framing solution with different beam lengths and skew angles along the entire bridge. DECON used Bentley’s LEAP Steel parametric modeling capability to quickly generate a structural model to design and analyze the structure. Using Bentley BIM technology, including GEOPAK and Open Roads/Bridge modelers, the construction documents were prepared under a very tight schedule.
