Berckmans Road Historic Bridge Replacement

Augusta, Georgia

The historic Berckmans Road bridge crossing the Raes Creek had served the community for many years and required replacement to continue offering safe, dependable transit. DECON provided structural engineering services for the preparation of plans, specifications, and estimates and other related documents for the bridge replacement that was an integral part of the Berckmans Road Realignment and Widening Project.

This two-phase infrastructure improvement program in the center of Augusta included a complete replacement of a historic existing substandard bridge over the environmentally sensitive Raes Creek with a double barrel three-sided culvert with a rubble stone veneer. The new 102 FT-long bridge is 70 FT wide and provides four lanes for traffic in both directions and two 8.5 FT wide sidewalks.

The program also upgraded the intersection of Berckmans Road and Ingleside Drive with a traffic circle that serves as the main entrance to the Augusta National Golf Club, an iconic site for the city of Augusta and the state of Georgia.
